In Memoriam

In memoriam Günter Lüttgens (1933 - 2021)

Günter Lüttgens was born 1933 and worked many years at Bayer Chemie in Leverkursen as safety manager. Günter and Sylvia started a company together to train staff in chemical industry to understand and handle the risk of static electricity. The couple travelled to many chemical industries and institutions with their demonstration equipment to visualize the risks and teaching how to reduce the risks. Günter has together with partners written several books on the topic.
With Günters passing, we have lost a dear friend and companion and a charismatic personality whose passionate engagement and farsighted decisions were instrumental. He was not only an international recognized expert in electrostatics but also always a patiently explaining mentor with an honestly inexhaustible knowledge. We owe a lot to him and already miss him so much.

Günter died in March 2021

In memoriam Prof. Juliusz Bohdan Gajewski (1952 - 2018)

Professor of the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering at the Wrocław University of Technology.
A valued teacher, outstanding scientist, educator of many generations of students, engineers and PhD students.
Expert in Electrical Engineering in the specialties of static electricity, fluid mechanics and metrology. Author of numerous publications, very scientifically active, member of scientific committees of international conferences.  A popularizer of science among children and youth. Departmental Coordinator of the Lower Silesian Science Festival at the Faculty of Mechanics and Energy.
He was the promoter of the organization of the conference Electrostatics 2021 at Wroclaw. Unfortunately he could not see it. His colleagues decided to continue with the organization of the conference as their best tribute.
But most of all, he was one of our most distinguished members, an excellent scientist and a highly appreciated friend of us, always so full of energy and good humour. We will miss him.

Prof. Sławomir Pietrowicz.
Head of the Department of Thermodynamics and Renewable Energy Sources of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology

In memoriam Professor Tsutomu Kodama (1944 - 2012)

On behalf of all Members of the European Working Party "Static Electricity in Industry", we are very sorry to inform you that our colleague Mr. Tsutomu Kodama passed away on 28 April 2012.
He was born in Fukuoka, Japan in 1944. Since 1966, he worked at National Institute of Industrial Safety (Present name: National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, Japan). He graduated from at the Department of Electrical engineering, the Kyushyu Institute of Technology. He engaged on studies regarding electrostatic hazards associated with liquid or powder processes and their prevention. He was a director of Physical Safety Research Group from 1999 to 2004. After retiring from the Institute in 2004, he moved Shishido Electrostatics, LTD., as a Technical Adviser. He also contributed to the Institute of Electrostatics Japan (IEJ), as a member of Editorial Board of the Journal of IEJ, a vice president (1999-2000), organising many symposiums on electrostatic hazards.
On 28 April 2012, he felt something wrong with him during warming-up exercise before playing tennis he loved, and he called an ambulance by himself. However, sadly, he was dead in a hospital and the cause was an aortic aneurysm repute. He was 68 years old.
Researchers in industrial electrostatics will sadly miss him.
